Activities

Our activities include scientific research, interdisciplinary oceanic expeditions, ocean literacy education, events, documentary production and strategic planning.

Founded in June 2020, we work across the marine science to policy nexus, using modern communications tools.

We start at the community level, building partnerships across government institutions, private sector, hapū and iwi and other nonprofits and Foundations. We respond to a growing need for general audiences to learn about the ocean, and promoting ocean literacy education. In parallel, we respond to data gaps by enabling scientific research, and making it accessible for a wide range of people.

We pride ourselves to be independent, non partisan, apolitical, and will always listen to the science. One of our goals is to decomplexify ocean science and make it more accessible. Another of our goals is to promote the regenerative sustainable blue economy.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 SDGs (especially SDG14-Life below water) guide us, and we place our work under the framework of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
