Future Tiaki Moana

Tiaki Moana was more than an event —it is the beginning of a long-term Pacific movement for ocean stewardship.

Building on the success of the inaugural gathering, Blue Cradle is working with the French Polynesia Government and SPREP toward formal partnerships that will anchor Tiaki Moana as a regional platform for action. Alongside partners such as IUCN, the Rahui Center, the Rahui Federation, the LMMA Network, and New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries, we are charting a pathway to scale community-led conservation, strengthening ecosystem resilience, and supporting global 30×30 commitments.

A Regional Platform in the Making

The next chapter for Tiaki Moana is one of growth, collaboration, and influence. Our ambition is to transform the Summit & Workshop into a recurring platform where Pacific voices drive conservation policy and practice. Discussions are underway to establish a formal Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Tahiti, as well as deeper collaboration with SPREP, ensuring alignment with Pacific-wide strategies for marine protection. By working with regional partners including IUCN, the Rahui Center, Rahui Federation, and the LMMA Network, and engaging New Zealand’s MPI, Tiaki Moana is becoming a living framework for integrated area-based management, OECMs, and ocean regeneration. Looking ahead, the initiative could also serve as a foundation for Aotearoa’s potential bid to host IMPAC7 in 2030/31, amplifying Pacific leadership on the global stage. At its heart, Tiaki Moana remains committed to supporting the achievement of 30×30 while honoring Indigenous stewardship and building strong, resilient communities. This is work in progress, and we invite all those who share this vision to join us.
